Registration is now open for Genealogy Classes at Library
We are pleased to announce that registration is now open for our free beginning genealogy course at the Naples Regional Library. The classes will be held from 9:15 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. in the auditorium on Mondays, November 3,10,17 & 24, 2014. Doors open at 9:00 a.m. The course is instructed by Marie Overman who has added a lot of new material that will be of interest to researchers at any level. National Archives 2014 Virtual Genealogy Fair Live Online
The National Archives (NARA) will be hosting the 2014 Virtual Genealogy Fair on October 28, 29, & 30, starting daily at 10 a.m. eastern time. This will be a free live streaming broadcast via the Internet on YouTube. Lectures will feature tips and techniques for using Federal records at the National Archives for genealogy research. Members Surname Database Online
Members of the Genealogical Society of Collier County have submitted their family surnames to our Surname Project, which is now a searchable online database. Anyone may contact the submitter by clicking on the surname of interest. Members can also submit their surnames online for addition to the database. CLICK HERE to find out more.
FamilySearch Affiliate Library
The Fort Myers- Lee County Public Library is a FamilySearch Affiliate Library, which means that library patrons now have access to the microfilmed holdings of the Family History Library in Salt Lake City. Microfilm and microfiche rentals may now be viewed at the library. For a list of the Frequently Asked Questions explaining this program, please click on link: FAQs_FamilySearch. The Fort Myers- Lee County Public Library is located at the corner of 1st and Lee Street , Fort Myers, Florida. Microfilm and microfiche can be ordered online by using the Online Film Ordering system CLICK HERE.
FamilySearch Photoduplication Service Click Here to visit. This is useful if you find that a record that has been indexed, but is not available online. You may be able to order a copy of the record from the Family History Library for a nominal fee. Please refer to their website for the details on this service.

CLICK HERE. The library has a subscription to HertiageQuest that can be accessed from the library or from home using your library card number. CLICK HERE to go directly to the library’s log in page. HeritageQuest Online has over 25,000 local history and family genealogy books, PERSI, and the United States Census, with an index to certain years. Ancestry.com’s Library Subscription is available on the Genealogy Room computers. Please sign in at the reference desk.
History of Incorporation and Non-Profit Status
On June 18, 2007 the Genealogical Society of Collier County filed articles of incorporation with the State of Florida as a non-profit corporation. The Genealogical Society of Collier County, Inc. is a federally recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit tax-exempt organization.
The Genealogical Society of Collier County Donations to the Friends of the Library for enhancement of the Genealogy Special Collection at the Naples Regional Library currently totals $18,750.00.
