DNA Project
The Genealogical Society of Collier County DNA Group Project
In order to encourage society members to advance their genealogical research using DNA, the Genealogical Society of Collier County formed the GSCC DNA Group at Family Tree DNA in 2007, where participants are offered group rates on DNA tests. Anyone can join the project by visiting the GSCC DNA page and scrolling down to view the tests offered. Visit the GSCC DNA Group Page to learn more about the tests offered and group rates.
DNA HELP GROUP
COLLIER DNA SIG
Arthur Sissman formed the Collier DNA group to help GSCC members who have taken the autosomal DNA test get to the next step in understanding and working with their DNA results. Please contact Arthur Sissman genresearch13@yahoo.com to learn more about joining the group.
The purpose of the group is to help members advance their family tree with the help of genetic genealogy. Participants are encouraged to have their DNA tested, if they have not already done so already, and to upload their DNA results to GEDmatch.com. The next step is to make a DNA Match spreadsheet in order to collect the data and record your match’s shared segments. Over time you will analyze and sort the data using triangulation; grouping three or more of your cousin matches who also match each other in the same segment on the same chromosome. Triangulation Groups (T.G.’s) are the key to putting you on the right path in determining your common ancestor. The spreadsheet will keep things orderly and will also aid in helping you determine whether the match is on your maternal or paternal side.
