Genealogy Room

The Genealogy Room at the Collier County Public Library, Naples Regional Branch, 650 Central Avenue, is open on a LIMITED schedule. Our volunteers are on duty Monday – Thursday from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. to provide assistance with the genealogy collection and computer databases. If patrons need help when volunteers or staff are unavailable, please contact Marie Overman, President of the Genealogical Society of Collier County, at tomoverman@hotmail.com for help and she will make arrangements to meet with patrons. 2026 Genealogy Class Schedule

Genealogy classes are taught by Marie Overman and Joyce Thompson at the Collier County Regional Library, 650 Central Avenue. Classes are free and everyone is welcome.

Three classes will be offered in January 2026 in the Rees Room at Naples Regional Library. Each class will be approximately one hour from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Immediately, following the classes, the Genealogy Room will be opened. Volunteers will be there to help you.

Joyce Thompson will show several different famous ancestors and a variety of ways she discovered them. She will concentrate on using Relative Finder and other Family Search fun activities. Before class you need to download your tree to Family Search and also add the Family Search app to your phone. Be sure to bring your phone and your tablet or computer to class with you. This way you can follow along on how to use it to discover your famous ancestors.

 Presented by Marie Overman. The search for your ancestor’s name on a passenger list can reveal crucial information about the person’s age, occupation, and home town. More information about this ancestor can also be found on naturalization papers.

Military Records 
Presented by Marie Overman. If your ancestors served, were drafted, or registered for the draft in any of the wars fought from the colonial era to Viet Nam, there may be records for the person. These records often contain birth date and place, occupation, a physical description, and other items that could help in your family search.

Tracing Your German Ancestors
Joyce Thompson we will be discussing various decades of immigration and where German settled during each time period. We will be looking at possible ports of departure and ports of arrivals for your ancestors. Where to start your research, what you need to know to begin your search and numerous websites which will help you in your quest will also be discussed.
